Paint Finishes/Sheens

A sheen can make all the difference in your home. Knowing where light reflects the most will allow the sheen or finish you choose, come through. See below for examples of how sheens/finishes can affect final appearance of your home.

Types of Finishes/Sheens (Click Paint Swatch to Enlarge Photo)

FLAT

  • Good for Interior ceilings and Interior low traffic areas

  • Doesn't reflect a lot of light

  • Allows color pigment of paint to come through

  • Masks Imperfections

EGGSHELL

  • Very commonly used

  • Not as reflective as Satin

  • Very similar to Low Sheen

  • Allow for frequent cleaning

  • Great for high traffic areas such as Interior Open Areas

MATTE

  • Similar to a Flat Sheen but less reflective

  • Allows for frequent cleaning

  • Masks Imperfections

  • Smooth touch to the hand once dry

  • Good for Interior High Traffic Areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms. 

SEMI GLOSS

  • Luminous finish

  • Highlights architectural details on home

  • Has a smooth furniture-like finish

  • Best for Cabinets and Trim

LOW SHEEN

  • Great for cleaning and touch-ups

  • Spatter resistant

  • Easy to clean

  • Uniform gloss finish

  • Quick drying

HI GLOSS

  • Mirror-like finish

  • Very durable and easy to clean

  • Stain resistance

  • Great for accent walls

  • Works best on Cabinets and Doors

SATIN

  • Higher gloss than Eggshell

  • Better stain resistance and durability

  • Great for both Interior and Exterior 

  • Luxurious look when dry

  • Great for Trim, Doors, Shutters and Cabinets
